A beautiful and intriguing antique pendant crafted from a silver coin.
Obverse (Saint George side): Saint George is shown slaying the dragon, surrounded by the traditional Latin inscription S. GEORGIVS EQVITVM PATRONVS (Saint George, patron of horsemen/knights).
This is a religious protection medal or a traveler’s talisman, often referred to as a thaler or a reinterpretation of motifs found on 18th- or 19th-century Saint George mining thalers.
The fine details, rope-style edging, and soldered bail suggest that it was made in the late 19th or early 20th century (the Art Nouveau / Belle Époque era), a period when Catholic and devotional jewelry flourished in Europe.
Materials: Solid silver coin mounted as a pendant with a bail.
Dimensions / Size: Approximately 28 mm in diameter.
Condition: Very good vintage condition, with an aged patina full of character.
The presentation boxes and decorative items shown in the photos are not included in the sale.
